Nursery and Standard I admission age: a guide for parents

How old does your child need to be for Nursery or Standard I at Shri R.G. Bajaria English Medium Primary School, and when should you start the process?

Pre-primary children in blue uniforms with their teachers

Choosing the right year to start school is one of the first questions parents ask us. The short answer: at our school a child should be 3 years old by 30 June to join Nursery, and 6 years old by 30 June to join Standard I.

The age rules at a glance

  • Nursery: 3 years old by 30 June
  • Standard I: 6 years old by 30 June

Nursery is offered for two years, followed by Junior and Senior KG in our pre-primary units. Standards I to IV follow the Maharashtra State Board curriculum, taught in line with the National Education Policy.

When to start the process

  • Nursery and Junior KG: admissions open from January.
  • Other classes: admissions take place in late April.

Schedules can change from year to year, so please confirm current dates and seat availability with the school office before you plan around them.

What to keep ready

For Nursery and Junior KG, keep the original birth certificate, the child’s Aadhaar card and proof of residence ready. For other classes, also bring the leaving certificate from the previous school.

Next step

The simplest way to begin is to send us an enquiry. The office will contact you to confirm the next steps and the documents to bring.
